Hi! I’m Kayla!
And I’m so glad you are here! I currently live in Santiago, Chile with my wonderful family. My roots are in the midwest but I grew up moving all around the world.
This photo is of me in my happy place… I adore the beach, warm weather and palm trees. I’m a bit Type A and I love a good adventure! My latest adventure endeavor is learning how to be a good plant mom (I’m trying oh-so-hard to have a green thumb) and launching this database to make your overseas life easier!
This Overseas Life came about after years of living in foreign countries. I’ve lived in five different countries and visited even more. I’m a nomad and an adventurer and my favorite feeling in the world is getting off the plane and stepping foot into a new country for the first time, knowing that adventure awaits!
But living abroad sometimes can be TOUGH. The items you know and love can’t always be found (pumpkin spice for your seasonal fall muffins), and even if you are lucky enough to find your favorite brand of peanut butter, the next time you go it is out of stock!
I was telling a friend about my idea for This Overseas Life, and he asked, “Why don’t you just Yelp! it?!” I kindly informed my well-meaning friend that Yelp! doesn’t exist overseas! I have found an amazing community in various WhatsApp groups, but have found that platform to be insufficient to appropriately search and store information. Queue my inner nerd and voila! Meet my attempt at database and website functionality.
